Steve Nordlund, the vice president and general manager
of Boeing NeXt, stated that the investment for advancing
the maturation of supersonic technology is a strategic and
disciplined procedure. Nordlund said, “Through this
partnership that combines Aerion’s supersonic expertise
with Boeing’s global industrial scale and commercial
aviation experience, we have the right team to build the
future of sustainable supersonic flight.”
With the new age of travel demanding for lessened
commute time from one place to another, supersonic
turbojet flying could not come any sooner. In October
2018, Aerion, a passion project started by Texas
billionaire Robert Bass, announced that it expected to
sell 300 aircrafts over the next 10 years. Aerion also
said that it expects a product design review in 2020.
After that, the first flight is anticipated to take place in
2023, followed by type certification in 2025, and then
entry into service in 2026. Thus, the return of supersonic
flight to the civilian market is imminent.
