“ I’ ve always wanted to direct,” he shared,“ but in Britain there is very much a high ceiling as I was seen as a gruff actor.” Now stepping confidently behind the camera, McKidd believes his acting background gives him a unique edge:“ I think actors make good directors because we know what’ s needed. Personally, I only want the actors to give the best.”

He described acting itself with poetic simplicity—“ Acting is just sitting around a campfire and listening to someone else’ s story.” Touching on his long-standing role in Grey’ s Anatomy, he added,“ The secret sauce to Grey’ s Anatomy is that the doctors always find something they can use in their personal life, from their patients. The doctor gets the healing done and each episode patients heal the doctors too.”
